Message from the CEO

ASA’s CEO letter to members and friends

As spring enters full force, ASA has been doing the same. This month has been full of activities that have allowed ASA to continue its presence both domestically and internationally, virtually and in person.

ASA held its 11th Annual Equipment Valuation Conference (EVC), virtually on May 24. I want to thank Conference Chair, Matt Kauffman, the ASA staff, and all of the presenters who helped make the event an educational success. I always enjoy giving ASA updates at the conference and appreciate everyone who was able to attend. To see photos from the conference, click here.

It has been encouraging to infuse the technology we’ve realized over this past year with traditional networking strategies to enhance our presence worldwide. This month has been a great example of its success.

By embracing this virtual world, I was able to participate in ASA’s EVC remotely while being abroad attending our ASA European Chapter event in Prague. The program was amazing and the venue, Obecni dum (Municipal House), was spectacular.  It was a great program that presented the collaboration between valuers, lawyers, arbitrators and judges.

Maintaining a global presence is a priority to ASA, so I’m glad I’ve been able to connect with our international members on site again this past month or two.

Being able to meet and support ASA’s European Chapter while participating virtually in ASA’s highly anticipated machinery and equipment event of the year is just the tip of the iceberg of what will come next as ASA continues to explore today’s profession innovations and technology.

ASA also continued its presence internationally this month in Plovdiv.

I spoke at the 8th National Conference of the Chamber of Independent Appraisers of Bulgaria. I enjoyed meeting new friends and creating relationships with valuers in Bulgaria and the surrounding region. About twenty years ago, a number of ASA appraisers visited Bulgaria to help train valuation professionals, so it was great to be able to continue what they started.

It was amazing spending time at the ASA Houston Energy Valuation Conference, re-engaging with our members and meeting potential new members.

Once again, ASA’s Houston Chapter hit it out of the park orchestrating their annual event. I thoroughly enjoy seeing our chapters in action; networking and putting together fantastic educational events for fellow industry professionals. I left Houston feeling even more connected to ASA members, its chapters, and ASA in general. I also left with a lot more knowledge and understanding of the future of energy as it relates to the valuation profession.

Earlier this month, I had the honor of chairing the Sponsors Meeting at The Appraisal Foundation after a great collaborative effort with the other sponsors of the Foundation. I appreciated the opportunity to take an active leadership role and presenting to the The Appraisal Foundation Board of Trustees on behalf of the Sponsors and looking forward to continue to do so.

In governance news, ASA joined twelve other organizations last month, urging the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance to hold a hearing on abusive syndicated conservation easement transactions. To read the letter, click here.

In other ASA news, we continue to kick off The ASA Difference Campaign; where we aim to bring more attention to ASA, its members, and the profession.

We’ve been collecting photos from our members these past few weeks and have gotten quite a few submissions. We truly appreciate everyone’s support and particpation! As of now, we’ve chosen 16 photos to include in our upcoming social media campaign and will be continuing to accept submissions through June 10. For more information on the campaign, how to particpate, and where to submit your photo, click here.

Coming up in June:

ASA’s Fair Value Conference is back in person (and online). We once again will be incorporating the techology we’ve adopted during the pandemic into the traditional event stylings of ASA by taking this year’s NYC Fair Value Conference into a hybrid format. I am looking forward to seeing some of our members and affiliates either online or in Hoboken, NJ on June 16. For more information or to register, click here.

Also, don’t miss ASA’s newest specialized event, diving into the intricacies of employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and how they affect experts in, or adjacent to, the appraisal profession. The 2022 ASA ESOP Virtual Conference will take place on June 21. For more information or to register, click here.
