ASA’s CEO letter to members and friends

This past month I have been actively working with our staff and organizers on the launch of ASA’s new association, learning and financial management systems and refreshed website, as well as events and professional development programs.

On January 31^st, ASA, AI, ASFMRA, IAAO, MBREA and NSREA came together and presented the first webinar of its series on diversity, equity and inclusion, Revealing Relevance for the Appraiser Profession. It was great moderating the event and a special thank you to the presenting experts: David Doering, ASA, IFA, Robbie Wilson, ASA, RA, SRA, Scott Reuter, and Danny Wiley, SRA, who discussed the details of the Freddie Mac study, how neighborhood or market area determinations are made, and how this definition could cause inadvertent negative impacts on the opinion of value. I was interviewed by the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) where I provided my insight on the global appraiser profession. It was great sharing what I’ve learned about the appraisal industry since starting at ASA, what makes appraisers unique, and reiterating the crucial role appraisers play in the operations of the global economy.

ASA has been continuing to roll out introductory courses for aspiring appraisers, including: GJ103-OOO – Fundamentals of Jewelry Appraisal on January 20; PP451-OOA – Appraising Fine Arts Overview on March 8, and BV101-OOO – Basic Fundamentals of Business Valuation starting on April 11.

I’m pleased to announce the release of the 2022 ASA Summer Appraisal Camp for personal property appraisers on August 3-27, 2022. Registration is open for this accelerated, intensive four-week virtual education program. Completion of this rigorous program meets the educational requirements for accreditation with ASA. I encourage everyone to sign up or share the event with those who might be interested.
