Message from the CEO

ASA’s CEO letter to members and friends

As we wrap up Women’s History Month, I would first like to thank all women appraisers, especially those that are a part of ASA, whose contributions help make ASA the outstanding organization that it is. We celebrate your achievements in the industry, as well as your raising awareness against bias and taking action for equality in the profession and in life. Continue inspiring the younger generations and other professionals in the industry!

This past month, ASA has been working diligently to prepare for Spring, both in governance elections, and upcoming events.

We will again use our independent voting platform for this year’s international elections. Eligible voting members will receive a ballot next month from eBallot.

All individuals who are eligible to vote must be in good standing by April 15, 2022 in order to be able to vote in the 2022-2023 ASA elections. To read the full text of the election and endorsement policies, click here. Thank you in advance for taking the time to vote during this year’s elections.

On March 14th, ASA and four other organizations submitted formal comments to the Appraisal Subcommittee (ASC) in response to a proposed rulemaking to amend existing rules governing temporary waiver requests. The amendments seek to provide greater clarity on the process for requesting temporary appraiser waivers. ASA and its partners expressed concern about unintended negative consequences and continued misunderstanding regarding the nature of relief provided through the grant of a waiver. The 11th Annual ASA Equipment Valuation Conference is now an all virtual event, happening on May 24th,,2022. This convenient format will allow appraisers to attend from anywhere in the world without the added travel costs or time away from home or work. There have been some changes to the agenda and want to thank conference chair, Matt Kauffman, and all event organizers for helping make this transition as smooth as possible. I encourage everyone to share the event with those that would be interested or benefit from ASA’s annual event.

The NY Fair Value conference is back in-person and will be taking place June 16th in Hoboken, NJ, which is quicker and easier to get to than a number of the NY boroughs.

ASA has announced its newest specialized ESOP event that will dive into the intricacies of employee stock ownership plans (ESOP) and how they affect experts in or adjacent to the appraisal profession. Save the date for ASA’s 2022 ESOP Virtual Conference happening virtually on June 21.
