Message from the CEO

ASA’s CEO letter to members and friends

October is here – headquarters and myself are gearing up for the 2021 ASA International Conference happening in Las Vegas, NV (and virtually) on October 24-26. I am very much looking forward to seeing all our members and friends who come to Vegas in person and those that are attending virtually! If you haven’t registered yet, I encourage everyone to do so, as we have an incredible line up of presentations this year.

ASA’s International Nominating and Awards Committee is seeking nominations for ASA Secretary/Treasurer for 2022-23. The position of Secretary/Treasurer is crucial for ASA as this individual may advance through the leadership positions and serve as ASA’s President for 2024-2025.

Nominations are also being accepted for Lifetime Achievement Award and Honorary Membership. Learn more about both of these opportunities here.

I am excited to announce that New 6th Edition of Valuing a Business publication is available for pre-order; and I want to thank, Roger J. Grabowski, FASA, Matt Crow, ASA, Jay Fishman, FASA, Ken Pia, ASA, and Jeff Tarbell, ASA  for championing the publication. The new 6th edition is being published by McGraw Hill with underwriting sponsored by ASA’s Educational Foundation. All proceeds benefit education, research and charitable activities to advance the appraisal profession.

The Society is honored to continue this publication’s legacy and impact, not only for today’s business valuers and allied professionals, but also for a new generation of appraisers through the support of the Foundation.

ASA’s John Russell and Justin Kane joined the ASA Alabama chapter for their first meeting of the year where they will give a presentation on what is happening in our government as it pertains to appraisers. Specifically, the presentation discussed the latest efforts by Congress to combat bias in home valuations through the new PAVE task force; as well as the appraisal-related components of the budget reconciliation package that Congress is working towards voting on.

Earlier this past month, I participated in the Appraisal Subcommittee (ASC) Fall 2021 Roundtable: Building a More Equitable Appraisal System as a panelist. There were a number of great topics discussed during the ASC presentation. We are just at the beginning of a movement where I believe we will create solutions for the entire housing financing process, which will include all parties that are involved in this process. I am glad to have been part of the program as one of the panelists.

I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of our colleagues from Turkey; Mr. Kemal Hakan Celikoglu and Ms. Busra Nur Isiner here in the ASA Headquarter offices. I am looking forward to the partnership we are developing with them and the aerospace sector.

We have a couple more events before 2021 comes to an end. Warbirds – An Educational Program is now a HYBRID event happening November 9-10, at the Tri-State Warbird Museum in Batavia, Ohio or online. Join ASA and our sponsor JSSI Advisory Services and benefit from decades of combined industry knowledge and expertise related to vintage military aircraft inspection and the appraisal process.

Lastly, breaking news of the 2021 Fair Value Virtual Conference – Winter has been scheduled! Please mark your calendars and save the date for December 1st, 2021.
