Message from the CEO

ASA’s CEO letter to members and friends

As August comes to a close and we begin preparing for fall, I’d first like to thank all of our members and students who have been attending ASA’s virtual events and education opportunities. It’s great to see our organization come together as we continue to weather through this 2020 pandemic.

We recently shared a presentation with ASA’s Board of Governors on a leadership training program that the ASA International President, Lorrie Beaumont, Past International President, Doug Krieser and myself underwent through the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) entitled the CEO Symposium. This specialized program focused on the key dimensions of leadership needed in regards to managing associations. Through this program, I remain optimistic about the future of the American Society of Appraisers and its members.

On August 10-12th I participated, along with staff, at the 2020 American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Virtual Annual Meeting & Exposition, the leading professional development event for the association management profession. The exposition was both inspirational and well put together. The ASA HQ staff and I gained some new insights we can use to continue having ASA break glass ceilings and remain the most preeminent appraising organization in the world.

As previewed in last month’s message, I presented before the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) on the current state and value of virtual education for continuing education opportunities. With ASA continuing to hold educational classes virtually, we are now very well-versed in the migration to synchronous distance education, so I was honored to speak about the successes ASA has experienced and help the industry plan for the future in regards to virtual education..

In addition, I participated in a panel discussion on valuing aircraft in current markets at the recent Corporate Jet Investor Global 2020 virtual conference.

With such a busy month in education, I also wanted to take the time to speak to the students who attended ASA’s August virtual classes. [It was great to catch up with our members virtually, and have some ‘face to face time’ with them again.
